Kuwait: Bidun fly “Freedom Balloons”

A month ago, the stateless community of Kuwait started a 3 day-long campaign of “flipping your Twitter avatar” to catch the media's attention and highlight their cause for the world. This Friday, they've made another campaign to set balloons in the air, calling them "freedom balloons". Just as people have interacted and sympathized with the “flip your avatar” campaign, many Twitter users have changed their avatars to one designed by Talal Obeid (@tatabotata) that says one word in Arabic: “Bidun”, which means “stateless”. People are showing support and sympathy to those who want to speak up for their rights in a peaceful way, by flying balloons.

Saudi Arabia: The Marriage of #Tabukgirl

It is not the first time we've seen a father wanting to marry off his minor daughter to an older man, especially in the countries of Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Through social networks the controversial story of the ‘Girl of Tabuk' has in the past few days emerged. News reports site the girl as being 17 years old, however social networks site cite the #Tabukgirl as being 14. No matter what her age, if it wasn't for her uncle the girl's father would have married her off to a 60-year old man. EL BÚHO SILENCIOSO

Mona Kareem

Traducción de: Muhsin Al-Ramli

No quiero que el aula se llene con los nuevos;

puedes pedirme prestado

el quitamanchas

y así borrarlo.

LA FLOR VESPERTINA

La flor vespertina

ha viajado con el olfato del aire

y me cambió por una muñeca silenciosa.

¿Seguiré aquel “yo” que he visto

en el espejo?

* * *

y el infierno mantiene un diálogo entre la muerte y yo;

Me pongo furiosa

y me pregunto: ¿quién es este hombre

que derramó el tintero del borrar

y se marchó?

Kuwait: Bloggers Fight Internet Companies

In the past two months, Kuwaiti bloggers have campaigned against the policy of Internet companies in Kuwait which is enforcing a policy of limited bandwidth, highly raising prices in the past year by agreeing between each other on the same list of prices, and killing the competition in the internet market. Blogger Hornet wrote a statement which was republished by others, signed by 154 bloggers and forums' admins and Al-Watan newspaper. This eventually triggered Kuwaiti Parliament members into questioning what Internet companies are doing without being monitored and controlled by the Ministry of Communication. The Ministry, a few days ago, has decided to force companies into lowering the prices by 15% and take off the Internet cap policy beginning next month but this has not yet fulfilled demands.
